Fisker founder/CEO Henrik Fisker was the featured guest on a Barron’s Live Event today.

Henrik Fisker says the company went through the SPAC process with Spartan Energy Acquisition (SPAQ -3.2%) because it is looking to take the Apple-Foxconn approach with outsourced manufactured. The SPAC process raises funds right away, making it easier to ink a deal with a manufacturing partner.

Fisker says his company doesn’t want to compete with Tesla, but is looking to take the lead in specific areas such as software.

Fisker thinks the company will hit the EV market in 2022, with sustainability and affordability key selling points. Fisker cars will be able to be purchased or leased. The company already his banks interested in financing the lease program.

Spartan Energy Acquisition Corp. is a special purpose acquisition company sponsored by an affiliate of Apollo Global Management (NYSE:APO).
