Windows Central sources say Microsoft (MSFT -4.1%) is working on a 12.5-inch Surface laptop (codename: Sparti) with the entry-level model featuring Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage.

Prices for the mid-range Sparti Surface could start at between $500 and $600. The existing Surface line includes the $399 Surface Go, $749 Surface Pro, and $999 Surface Laptop.

Sources say Sparti could be announced sometime next month.

If the information is accurate, Microsoft is likely targeting remote learners as the pandemic tailwind continues. In the FQ4 report in July, Microsoft’s Surface sales grew 30% Y/Y due to the work and learn from home trends.

Related: Yesterday, Windows Central reported that Microsoft would release a lower-cost Xbox Series S model for $299. Microsoft confirmed the news this morning.
